What Makes a Cardigan Special?

While they share the signature short legs and long body, Cardigans have a few distinct traits that set them apart:

• The "Fox" Tail: Unlike Pembrokes (who are often born with bobtails), Cardigans sport a long, brush-like tail that looks just like a fox’s.

• The Ears: They have large, rounded, upright ears that give them an incredibly alert and soulful expression.

• Sturdy Build: Cardigans are slightly heavier-boned and more powerful than Pembrokes, making them rugged little adventurers.

• Temperament: They are known as the "sensible" corgis. While they love a good romp, they are often a bit more laid-back and devoted to their "inner circle."

A Kaleidoscope of Colors: Cardigan vs. Pembroke

One of the most striking differences between Cardigans and Pembrokes lies in their coats. While Pembrokes are primarily known for their red, sable, fawn, and black & tan coats (often with white markings), Cardigans boast a far wider spectrum of colors and patterns!

• Brindle: This unique "tiger stripe" pattern is a hallmark of the Cardigan and is never seen in Pembrokes. It's truly stunning!

• Blue Merle: A captivating marbled pattern of grey, black, and white, often with blue eyes. This is another pattern exclusive to the Cardigan breed.

  
  

• Sable, Red, and Black & Tan: While these colors are also found in Pembrokes, Cardigans often have a richer depth of color and more distinct markings.

• White Markings: All Cardigans will have some degree of white markings, usually on their chest, neck, legs, and muzzle.
